Sanjay Puri, Dominique Petit-Frere, Emre Arolat and Yenny Zhang have been announced as Archello Awards 2024 jurors, expanding a strong international panel of architects and designers. Read on to learn more about their careers and work:
Sanjay Puri leads Mumbai-based Sanjay Puri Architects. With a current firm strength of 108, Sanjay Puri Architects focuses on evolving design solutions that are contextual and sustainable, creating spaces that explore spatial perceptions, which forms the essence of the firm’s design philosophy. Founded by Sanjay Puri and Nina Puri, the firm has completed architectural projects in Australia, Spain, Montenegro, UAE, Oman, and Dallas, USA, and is currently involved in the design of projects in 36 Indian cities. Sanjay Puri Architects' Mirai House of Arches was named Housing Interior of the Year by the Archello Awards 2023 program.
The firm has won numerous awards, including the CDA 2023 Paris Best Residential Project Worldwide, The LOOP Design Awards Best Large Architectural Firm, The Best Completed Building – Production Energy & Logistics in the World Architecture Festival, Singapore 2023, The Best Housing Project Worldwide in the World Architecture Festival, Lisbon 2022, and The LEAF Awards London Best Interior Project 2021. Overall, the firm has garnered over 450 awards, including 300 international design awards.
Sanjay Puri has served on the jury of the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona, Singapore, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Lisbon, being the first Indian architect to do so. He has also judged The Architectural Review Awards, UK, Dezeen Awards, UK, The Plan Awards, Italy, and Inde Awards, Australia, and has been a speaker at several international and national conventions.
Sanjay is a registered member of the RIBA, UK, the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA, New York), the Indian Institute of Architecture (IIA), and the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID). He has also been part of the Heritage Conservation Committee, New Delhi. Snaj
Dominique Petit-Frere is a co-founder of Limbo Accra, a spatial design practice located in Accra, Ghana. She is a design strategist working in collaboration with architects, designers and artists by connecting with places, institutions, and people through long-term, transdisciplinary networks. Through these in-depth relationships that crosscut the architecture, design and social activism scenes, Petit-Frere aims to find intuitive and innovative solutions that do more with what there is already.
Emre Arolat is the design partner of EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture, founded with Gonca Paşolar. Engaged in a wide range of projects, from urban master plans and airports, to residential and cultural buildings, and workplaces, EAA is an internationally recognized practice with offices in New York, London and Istanbul.
Arolat teaches and lectures widely. He recently taught Advanced Studio at the Yale School of Architecture as Norman R. Foster Visiting Professor and a Master Studio at The Berlage Institute in Delft. He has lectured at several academic and professional institutions such as Cooper Union, the Pratt Institute, AIA Rensselaer, Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, at La Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris, Cept University in Ahmedabad and RIBA in London. Arolat was the co-curator of the first Istanbul Design Biennale in 2012. He was awarded a professorship by the International Academy of Architecture, Sofia. Arolat served on the Aga Khan Award for Architecture Master Jury in 2016 and has been appointed recently to the Steering Committee for the 14th Award Cycle.
Emre Arolat was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in February 2019, for his significant contribution to architecture and society.
Yenny Zhang is a Global Retail Experience Designer for Nike. She is recognized for her efforts in shaping immersive experiences that defy convention. Zhang brings a unique approach to her role and not only designs seasonal retail spaces for Nike but also crafts compelling brand designs for clients and music videos for artists. With an academic foundation in Environmental Design from ArtCenter College of Design, Yenny's distinctive skill set integrates creativity, spatial expertise, and a playful, experimental spirit.
Zhang's philosophy revolves around infusing playfulness into every audience, creating retail spaces that transcend mere transactions and evolve into captivating narratives. She has contributed to noteworthy Nike campaigns such as the Women’s World Cup 2023, Air Max Day 2023, Future Fitness, and World Cup 2022, showcase her ability to integrate creative branding into spatial experience design seamlessly. Her work is not just about showcasing products but crafting immersive stories that resonate profoundly with the audience.
